CREATIVES IN COLOR art show
For Give Your People Flowers, I shaped the artistic direction and storytelling behind the exhibition, which honored BIPOC creatives in Indianapolis. I also led a social media campaign that amplified community voices and drew attendees to celebrate creativity and recognition.
CHALLENGE
People of color have long been overlooked in design and other creative spaces. I wanted to create a space of fellowship and transparency for creatives to network and find additional avenues of continued learning within their respective communities.
SOLUTION
Creatives in Color was created to celebrate BIPOC talent in hopes to offer a sense of belonging and community through transparency and inclusivity. I saw a gap in the creative community where it started to become very homogeneous. The speaker series was born to combat this issue by hand-picking creatives to share and exchange stories and journeys for inspiration. An expansion of this was the creation of the Creatives in Color Art Show titled “Give People Your Flowers”. The intention behind the Art Show was to give the Indy community a front seat to the talent of local Indy artists, while creating an inclusive community-driven experience.
My art direction for “Give People Your Flowers” was to amplify community voices and draw attendees to celebrate creativity and recognition. I wanted to highlight all past speakers from the series through a thoughtful photo campaign. With support from a local florist, we had a floral installation featuring a chair surrounded by blooms – symbolizing recognition and growth. Each featured creative was photographed in this setting, embodying the theme of “giving people your flowers” During the exhibition, attendees were invited to sit in the same chair for their own “bloom moment,” creating an interactive and uplifting experience.
As for our social media strategy we created a campaign that spotlighted participating artists and extended the message of appreciation throughout the community. We also unveiled portraits of our upcoming Creatives in Color 2025 lineup, displaying them during the show to build excitement for future programming.
The result was a vibrant, well-attended event that not only honored local talent but also inspired the community to celebrate and uplift one another.
