AIGA INDIANAPOLIS
TAKING ON THE ROLE OF PRESIDENT FOR AIGA INDY MEANT ALSO BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR BRAND REDESIGN AND NEW BRAND STRATEGY FOR 2O25-2026
CHALLENGE
AIGA( American Institute of Graphic Arts) is a national nonprofit organization that serves the design communities around the US. Each local chapter is responsible for creating events for connection and professional development. AIGA Indy specifically was struggling to create engaging programming and events while keeping attendance high. The organization seemed to have partnered with the same organizations for years and lacked a diverse and inclusive strategy for the Indianapolis creative community. Because of this, a lot of community members either felt like they couldn’t attend events or were not welcoming. The creative collaboration was lacking and needed a resurgence to revive the organization to last for years to come.
SOLUTION
As the elected president for AIGA Indy for the year of 2025-2026 I wanted to establish who we were and what we do. I wanted the organization to serve as agents of creative connectors for the Indianapolis community. I didn’t want the idea of creatives to only mean we serve graphic designers but creatives as all types. I wanted to combat the idea that we were this exclusive organization, and I knew this meant I needed to rethink our creative brand strategy externally. We do exist as a national organization, however the Indy chapter needed its own presence.
From a visual perspective I wanted to create a brand that was seen as inviting and approachable. The smiley face motifs are very intentional and so is the use of vibrant colors throughout our internal branding and external event graphics. I wanted to also make sure the community knew who was serving them. Whether the community members are collaborators or members, we wanted to make sure they are the focal point of our branding for visibility. I was very intentional in creating a board of directors that were diverse and came from many different creative backgrounds to cover all aspects of creativity in Indianapolis.
AIGA Indianapolis now has its own unique look and feel aside from other local chapters. We have an online presence and have become a hub to increase visibility for local creatives while also celebrating them.
